Traditional Health

Based on history, the development of the modern medical field in Indonesia, known since the establishment of Budi Utomo and medical schools in Java in the 1900s, this school adopted and formally institutionalized the principles and techniques of medicine. Specifically developing patterns of disease healing in a rational way and based on research logic and the use of standardized medicines. The concept of treatment offered was very different from the techniques and patterns of treatment that were widely used at that time.
Its practitioners, who later became doctors, were given medical knowledge and studied in an official institution. Various groups can also learn this treatment technique as long as they are interested and willing to spend their time entering the education system that has been built in a systematic and focused manner. In the course of time it was even agreed and became mandatory that a doctor must comply with a medical code of ethics, which is universally applicable. In general, this code of ethics regulates the relationship between doctors and their patients, and upholds the principles of humanity and help for those in need. This principle is without regard to structural limitations. For inputs that are injected into the body of a patient with a disease, commonly called medicine, the modern medical field has succeeded in developing various forms of medicine, which were originally also derived from extracts and certain plant extracts. Certain plants are also taken from nature, where with the contribution of research institutions and pharmaceuticals that are growing rapidly, certain substances are produced specifically, which are very helpful for doctors in curing various diseases.
As it is known that the content of active substances in medicinal plants is very diverse. In the view of pharmaceutical chemists, not all of these substances are necessary in the treatment of disease. By the modern medical field, this is what has been successfully separated and isolated in certain ways and techniques. Substances that are considered unnecessary are separated, and not used. Medium substances based on scientific research, proven to have an optimal healing effect, then mixed with several other substances that are intended to increase the potential for healing a disease. This combination of several healing substances is then classified and recognized as medicine. Such is the role of research institutions and academics in developing excellence in the medical field. Doctor candidates are trained in an official institution with the support of the government and global entrepreneurs. It is recognized that many cases of world disease outbreaks have been resolved by medical measures, so the world owes a great deal to the existence of this field. Various attentions and alignments are allocated and disbursed for the improvement of medical quality. Medical practitioners become savior gods who can do anything, so there is a tendency to place patients as oppressed and weak parties.
Recommendations from this group on the condition of the patient being treated are fixed. Often medical recommendations are not based on in-depth and focused diagnostic analysis. Shallow analysis and recommendations on the patient’s medical condition will clearly result in medical actions that have fatal consequences. The patient instead of recovering instead leads to a worsening condition. Likewise with the administration of the type and dose of drugs that tend to be out of control. To cure, usually the medical party just stuffs various drugs or one type of high-dose drug to the patient. In fact, to cure a case of a patient’s illness, it is not necessary to take excessive types or doses of drugs. It is common knowledge that the widespread use of antibiotics, which in some cases is usually quite effective in suppressing the development of disease, makes the germs of the disease resistant. There is an error in the diagnosis or maybe there is a trade conspiracy between medical personnel and pharmaceutical manufacturers? Some cases of malpractice become daily news in our society, but with the position of patients who are blind to their health problems, supported by the superiority of a medical institution so that people become guinea pigs for their ignorance. ability of a medical professional. Very few patients who have experienced malpractice can fight for their right to cure. The suspected violators of the medical code of ethics cover up the information and medical actions they have taken. There is only despair and misery that becomes the friend of patients who are affected by malpractice. The government, as an intermediary institution, cannot be expected to defend the interests of the health of its people. This is indeed a dilemma, because the government also has a dominant role in developing the modern medical field. The government’s intensive development efforts always rely on the development of several fields, one of which is the health sector.
Health equity

Almost no hospital is willing to give priority to treating patients who come, without asking for funding. Commercialization has become a role model icon in this field so that it steps on a noble principle that has long been promoted and formulated in the medical code of ethics, to act selflessly, regardless of who needs help. From various images of impartiality in the medical field, of course not all of them act like animals Economically, from this crowd also emerged one or two medical practitioners who put their conscience forward to the weak. On the other hand, in the field of medicine in the archipelago has also developed, disciplines and traditional-based medicine. Long before the development of the modern medical world, society relied fully on the techniques and patterns of this traditional medicine. There are quite a lot of schools that have developed, but in general some patterns can be drawn wherein, medical techniques have almost no proof or rational explanation for what can be used to treat a disease. The practitioners in it rely more on their analysis and treatment methods to intuition. Often they act recklessly and cannot be held accountable for the consequences of their treatment. It should be emphasized that most of these non-medical health practitioners generally use a variety of spices and plants, which are believed to have medicinal properties.
The community as patients receive inadequate services. This happens because it is not institutionalized and there are no standard rules that can be used to regulate the existence of medical practitioners in this field. The medicines used are based on various wild plants which are then mixed based on experience. There is hardly any documentation or basis for using this plant as a healing tool. This happens because there are no educational or research institutions that are willing to develop this field and make it a guarantee for medical practice. The herbs and spices used certainly do not have special standards. It is very difficult to determine the exact amount and dosage of plants given as medicine to patients. Usually, the dosage of plants as medicine is based on a very questionable quantity, such as one pinch, one finger, etc. This is of course very traditional, but this is what characterizes this field. There is no definite standard for the use of medicinal plants and spices in the medicinal activities of practitioners in it. This does not happen only in terms of size, but also the provision of a certain type of plant/spice as a medicine is also usually not based on the results of special research. For Diarrhea, C plants are usually given, while for Diabetes, certain spices are used.
There will be no uniform argument as to why certain plants are given for diarrhea. What are the substances in certain plants that can treat diarrhea? All are determined based on the habits and experience findings of previous practitioners. In various cultural communities in various parts of the world, wisdom-based medical techniques have also developed. Wisdom in the sense of seeking to improve the body’s defense system in overcoming disturbing diseases. Certain massage techniques are widely used to treat ailments. As it is believed that long before the discovery of modern medical techniques and various types of drugs, people depend a lot on this non-medical health field. Treatment technique by stimulating the body’s own elements to actively overcome the disease.

Based on deep experience, as well as medical practice in the community and supported by systematic recording, the massage technique commonly referred to as acupressure developed in the archipelago. The basic thing about this treatment technique is that the community is the doctor. They are motivated to be able to overcome the disease they suffer independently. The systematics built make it easier for the people to detect and even overcome their own diseases. This method certainly does not require a special school in the year. Only a short training session is needed, as well as continuous assistance, so that the community can really reduce their dependence on treatment efforts that take up various resources. Because they still prioritize approaches and cultural wisdom, the world of non-medical medicine, the practitioners in it still very respectful of humans and the environment. The social approach is a force to increase the repertoire of non-medical health in the community. Humans who suffer from illness are treated as human beings, not as economic machines, so that although there are benefits that are received by practitioners and given by the community, they do not prioritize the principle of commercialization. Efforts to strengthen and cultivate this noble life principle are mobilized by making senior practitioners as role models, seeking to transfer this attitude of life to other communities through productive activities in social organizations. although it is not said to be in a period of recession or economic downturn, but at the lower levels feel the pressure of life’s burdens. That it is very difficult to meet the basic needs of most people. With the improvement of the nation’s economic indicators on a macro basis (says government officials), real conditions in the field, especially in Langkat Regency, are increasingly difficult to obtain a decent living. Especially if it is added with the fulfillment of health status. Getting service in this field is an exclusive thing for most of our citizens. It is almost impossible to find medical practitioners who provide their time at all times to help patients who need help. They will act like office hours even when dealing with critical patients.
There was a bitter experience for me personally in dealing with medical personnel, where suddenly my child had a high fever at night. What parent wouldn’t panic about this situation? The only hope is to seek medical assistance. After a visit to his home which is also a practice; and banged on the door for a few minutes, there was no response from the medical personnel, to take a little time to rest. This situation is very sad, and at the same time reminds us of the severe dependence of this nation on some of its citizens who happen to master medical techniques. Whereas as I recall, medical professionals are required to always help various groups regardless of formal boundaries as a professional code of ethics. Breakthroughs and innovations are needed by mobilizing our own sources of strength so that the need to obtain comprehensive health is not impossible. A strong and healthy society is the cornerstone of the founding of this nation. What will happen if some residents get sick while competent institutions are available everywhere but instead of being a savior, they are shunned even though they are really needed by the poor. The inability to access health should make policy thinkers seek concrete action.
It takes courage and determination to slightly change the paradigm that to be healthy absolutely requires the role of the medical world. There is another side to traditional medicine that also needs to be developed together. Provide roles and guidance so that the other world in the form of alternative health can develop in parallel. Don’t even place one area higher and look at another area with a horse’s eye. Multi-sided dialogue efforts – opening up to each other, may be used as a forum to build interaction and reduce the level of partiality so that the support of various parties for efforts to preserve the power of local-based healing can be carried out together.
Alternative health and the cultivation of medicinal plants is a movement carried out by BITRA Indonesia in Langkat, Binjai, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai & Labuhan Batu Utara districts with dozens of groups of alternative health practitioners to provide answers to the problems of the practice of capitalism medicine which we unknowingly have become a pressing need. always considered ‘reasonable’, even though it is expensive, even become ‘dependence’.
